"If there are no dogs in Heaven, then when I die I want to go where they went." - Will Rogers

Welcome to the Brookhaven Animal Rescue League

The Brookhaven Animal Rescue League is a non-profit, NO-KILL all-volunteer animal welfare group. BARL is a dedicated, growing organization committed to reducing euthanization of companion animals. We arrange shelter and basic veterinary services for abandoned and orphaned animals until they can be placed with families.

No healthy animals are killed just because they are unwanted.

Eleven ways you can help. Caring for these four-footed friends takes love, time, and money. Our "How to Help" page gives eleven ways you can help the animals.

Food Drive for BARL animals. On Friday, June 24, Radio Station B92/Majic 104.3 and Honda of Brookhaven are sponsoring a Food Drive for the Brookhaven Animal Rescue League. When you make out your grocery list this week, add a bag of pet food. Bring bags of dry cat, kitten, dog, or puppy food to Honda of Brookhaven on Brookway Blvd. between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. We especially need puppy and kitten food right now. The radio station will be broadcasting from the site and asking for food donations.

Medication Day. Volunteers are needed to give our dogs their monthly heartworm preventative. The next Medication Day is Tuesday, June 28 at the Gove Canine Facility, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.. No skills required. Future Medication dates. Every volunteer gets a Rescue car magnet.

BARL General Meeting, Monday, August 8, at 6:00 p.m. at Country Fisherman in Brookhaven (sorry, the restaurant won’t be serving.) We have some important items to discuss, including a possible temporary shelter for cats. This meeting is open to all animal lovers in the Brookhaven area. Please come and help us plan how to help animals.

Win a Wal-Mart gift certificate. BARL will be raffling off a $500 gift certificate in August. Stop by Country Fisherman in Brookhaven and buy your chances for $1 each.

Save aluminum cans and empty printer cartridges. The League can turn your cartridges and cans into vet services, food, or fencing. Details.

Send us your pet photos. Be a part of the “IN” crowd...the few, the proud, the adopters! Send us photos of your family with the precious pet you adopted from BARL and we’ll run the photo in upcoming newsletters. We love to see photos of happy pets with their happy families. Have you had your BARL pet a month, a year, 5 years? It doesn’t matter...we want to hear (and see) your happy tails! (Send your photos to volunteer@BARL.net or mail to BARL, P.O. Box 3477, Brookhaven MS 39603.)

Protect your Pet. In this area, up to 45% of untreated dogs can be heartworm positive. Be sure your pet is on monthly heartworm preventative. Talk to your veterinarian about options.

Help build our new shelter. BARL has plans for a new, clean, safe shelter for our dogs and cats. Become a foundation sponsor and buy a yard of concrete to build the foundation ($65). Or buy a brick engraved with your name or someone you wish to honor for $50. Send your donations to P.O. Box 3477, Brookhaven MS 39603. For more information, send us a message.

Become a BARL member. Want to help animals?  Join the Brookhaven Animal Rescue League and be a part of our work to help unwanted and abandoned companion animals.Suggest a Name. All BARL animals are given names. Send us your favorite names or suggestions for naming a cat or dog.

Read more about animal behavior. The Humane Society of the U.S. and Petfinder.com publish lots of great articles about animal behavior. Check out our on-line library with links to these resources. Articles from past Paws in Print are also included.

League animals are featured on Petfinder.com, our online adoption partner. Check out our dogs and cats waiting for adoption.
